Membership Requirements and Application Guidelines - 2016
Thank you for your interest in applying to be a member of the National Honor Society at Saint Ignatius High School. We believe that the members of National Honor Society represent the best of what it means to be a Saint Ignatius man and Man for Others. Members of the National Honor Society:
In addition to exemplifying the characteristics described above, junior class applicants to NHS must also meet the following requirements for membership:
Upon the receipt of the applications by the advisor, selection (endorsement) sheets listing all applicants’ school activities will be made available for faculty perusal.These selection sheets shall be distributed to all faculty members of St. Ignatius High School. These faculty members will comment on the accuracy of the students’ desirability for admittance into the N.H.S.
- are accomplished, dedicated, and inquiring scholars; they are committed to achieving excellence in their academics and consistently exemplify our mission’s commitment to Scholarship.
- are both involved and deeply committed to Service. They understand that serving others is a fundamental part of following Christ, and have made service an integral part of their lives here at Saint Ignatius.
- are leaders here on campus, both in and out of the classroom. They recognize that Leadership means leading from the front, and they have taken on important leadership roles in their various engagements across campus.
- are exemplary models of Character. They see themselves as pillars of honesty, integrity, and generosity of spirit. They show in their daily actions what it means to live the values of Christ and hold themselves to high moral standards.
In addition to exemplifying the characteristics described above, junior class applicants to NHS must also meet the following requirements for membership:
- a minimum cumulative scholastic of 3.3 (90%), including having attained a minimum 3.3 (90%) average in the semester before application to the society.
- demonstrated and consistent participation in three or more activities on campus (service organizations or organizations that enhance the quality of school life at St. Ignatius High School)

Requirements for Members (PLEASE READ)
NHS members are actively involved and work together as a team to be leaders and role models on campus. You are applying to be a part of a living, breathing organization--NOT to merely put an extra line on your resume. NHS men represent the best of what the Ignatius community values, and we expect you to be a visible, active part of fostering those values on campus.
If admitted for membership to NHS, you will be expected to do the following to maintain your membership through graduation and to continue living fully the ideals and characteristics of NHS men:
Your application to NHS signifies your agreement to and interest in participating fully in the activities of the society.
If admitted for membership to NHS, you will be expected to do the following to maintain your membership through graduation and to continue living fully the ideals and characteristics of NHS men:
- Attend monthly and/or bimonthly meetings of NHS regularly
- Participate actively in the programming, service, and fundraising efforts of the society
- Participate actively in a subcommittee, such as public relations, character, service, or peer tutoring
- Serve as a tour guide at Open House
- Log a required number of participation hours in society events each semester
- Maintain in good standing the GPA and characteristics required for admission to the society throughout your tenure as a member of NHS
